Great Expectations – A humble orphan suddenly becomes a gentleman with the help of an unknown benefactor. This is Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Here’s some fun facts. Jeremy Irvine plays Pip, the central character. Jeremy’s little brother Toby plays “young Pip.” Helena Bonham Carter plays Miss Havisham, but Meryl Streep was approached first for the role.
The Lunch Box – A mistaken delivery in Mumbai’s famously efficient lunchbox delivery system connects a young housewife to an older man in the dusk of his life as they build a fantasy world together through notes in the lunchbox. In Hindi with English subtitles.
The Quiet Ones – A university professor and a team of students conduct an experiment on a young woman, uncovering terrifyingly dark, unexpected forces in the process. This movie is “inspired by actual events.” Here’s a report which examine the actual events vs. the movie events.
The Railway Man – A former British Army officer, who was tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labor camp during World War II, discovers that the man responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him. Stars Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. This one also has Jeremy Irvine (of Great Expectations) playing “young Eric.”
